Follow-Up Visits

Follow-up visits with Dr. Cohen are tailored to the unique needs of each patient and typically last for 30 to 60 minutes (based on the complexity of the visit).

30 - 60 minute Development and/or Behavioral Monitoring Visits

Follow-up visits to monitor your child’s developmental and/or behavioral progress once supportive services and/or educational accommodations have been put in place can be done at 3-, 6-, 9- or 12-month intervals if desired, or on an as needed basis if preferred. These visits can include follow-up developmental assessments and/or questionnaires to monitor progress, as well as to discuss any new or worsening challenges that arise. These visit durations vary based on complexity. For example, straight forward monitoring visit could be scheduled for 30-60 minutes and can be done in-person or via telehealth. Visits that include a standardized developmental assessment are scheduled for 2 hours and are typically done in-person but could be done via telehealth if preferred by parents.

60 minute Medication Consultation Visits

Parents and their child (if desired and age-appropriate) are recommended to schedule a visit with Dr. Cohen if/when they are considering trying a medication for their child and/or want to learn more about medication management options. This type of visit can be done in-person or via telehealth and are typically scheduled for 60 minutes.

30-60 minute Medication Management Visits

If Dr. Cohen is prescribing and managing a medication for your child, then regular follow-up visits are required. Dr. Cohen will see patients who are starting a new medication within a month of starting it to see how they are doing on it. After that follow-up visits can vary from monthly to every 3 months depending on the situation. More frequent follow-up may be needed if we are making changes to medications while finding the right fit medication and dose to best support your child. While on a medication your child will need to have 2 in-person visits per year to monitor their vital signs and growth. Other visits can be done in-person or via telehealth based on parent/patient preference.
